The Loggia: UK's most environmentally efficient extension solution

ULTRAFRAME launches the first eco home extension system that combines the very best of British building excellence with a helping of Italian inspiration.

Described as a ‘cross-over’ extension product, the Loggia integrates all the light and space of a conservatory but with the thermal and practical benefits of a solid extension.

Every aspect of the Loggia is sustainable and environmentally friendly. From the material that’s used to construct the unique corner posts and pillars to the zero waste strategy that underpins the way the Loggia is manufactured in the factory. The Loggia is so thermally efficient that it takes less than a third of the energy required to heat a conservatory of the same dimensions.

As the most environmentally efficient extension solution available in the UK today, not only do homeowners experience a much shorter build time than a traditional brick-built extension, which alone reduces energy and fuel costs, but the Loggia delivers superior thermal performance that far exceeds a standard conservatory. A corner post and pillar u value of 0.15 delivers year-round temperature control and usability for the home owner.

The main feature of the Loggia that separates this from anything else in the market place is the unique corner post and pillar structure. Both are manufactured in the Ultraframe factory in Clitheroe to very tight tolerances that allow for absolutely zero waste. All the material used is incredibly environmentally friendly – no ozone depleting gases or chemicals are produced during the production of Loggia.

Taking its name from a roofed gallery or recessed room open to the air on one side and supported by ornate columns, developed by ‘architectural visionary’ Filippo Brunelleschi during the Italian Renaissance period, the Loggia can be entirely personalised to blend in with the homeowners existing property, lifestyle and budget.

From its well-crafted roof to a number of new features including integrated panel heaters, the product features solid plastered walls for ‘superb’ thermal performance that according to the manufacturers Ultraframe, can compete with traditional extension structures.

Joe Martoccia, sales and marketing director at Ultraframe said: “Loggia is a game-changer, no question. This is the first innovation to come out of this industry that not only shapes the future of the conservatory market but critically opens up the extension market that was previously not accessible to our industry. We believe that it is essential for our industry to seek new markets and develop new products in order to survive.

“Fundamentally the conservatory has not evolved for 30 years. Our research suggests that the modern consumer is looking for better styling, a degree of individualism and more importantly a structure that becomes part of the house 365 days of the year, so usability is paramount.

“Loggia does that. Not only will it attract traditional conservatory customers but critically, it will open up the market to home owners wanting all the benefits of a traditional extension at a much lower cost, and without the hassle and red tape associated with extensions.

"We believe that the market for single storey extensions in the UK is in excess of 100,000 units; that’s bigger than the conservatory market and our industry has the ability to capture a large slice of this.

“Loggia also provides our network with the opportunity to offer an improved living space option to those three million conservatory owners already out there. It is conceivable that a large number installed 20 to 30 years ago may be in need of renovation. The added benefits of increased usability and the attraction of personalisation will, we believe, offer a compelling proposition.”

Available in classic white, pure cream, urban grey or landmark green, the Loggia can be specified to blend in with the property, or as a completely stand-alone building such as an office or garden living space.

As the roof is supported by corner posts and pillars, there are many glazing options. Sliding sashes, bi-folds, contemporary full-length glazing or traditional glazing with a low perimeter wall can all be catered for.

One of the biggest benefits of the Loggia which delivers the unique Ultraframe quality is the way the corner columns are manufactured to deliver the solidity of an extension.

Hugo Tugman of Architect Your Home comments: “Loggia really fills a gap in the market between a potentially expensive, extension and a conservatory or orangery style system which often falls short of home owner expectations of usability.

"The reality is home owners want choice and they want to be able to make sure that they can use their new space all year round – that’s easily achieved with Loggia which has high levels of thermal performance built into its structure. The design possibilities and personalisation of Loggia are endless.”
